Angelique Kerber aiming for title in Berlin

Because of Angelique Kerber Germany has fallen in love with tennis all over again. In 2016, she became the first German player since Steffi Graf to top the world rankings and stayed number one for 34 weeks. With diligence and perseverance, the left-hander became a role model, benchmark and superstar: she won three Grand Slam titles, and after the Australian Open and the US Open in 2016, she finally triumphed at Wimbledon in 2018.

And now she's competing in Berlin!

When the best players in the world will face each other at the Berlin Ladies Open presented by ecotrans Group from June 15 to 23, 2024, Angelique Kerber will join the chase for the title in the Steffi-Graf-Stadium: "Playing in Germany is always something special, and anyone who knows me knows that I will leave my heart on the court. That hasn't changed since my return, and I'm looking forward to serving at the Berlin Ladies Open presented by ecotrans Group this summer during the grass court season." Angelique Kerber, 36 years old and a professional since 2003, became a mother for the first time in February last year. Daughter Liana has already seen a few tennis courts.

The WTA 500 tournament at the impressive LTTC "Rot-Weiß" e. V. facility in Berlin has a total prize fund of 922,573 US dollars at stake. In addition to Angelique Kerber, a second former world number one, Naomi Osaka, has already confirmed her participation.

Barbara Rittner, Tournament Director of the Berlin Ladies Open presented by ecotrans Group, has known Angelique Kerber for decades and is well aware about her ambition: "For me, for our tournament, Angie's participation is an absolute highlight. I am sure that she will have a good grass court season. I know what she's aiming for - and grass is simply her favourite surface."

Barbara Rittner knows: "Angie is the German player that people definitely want to see again." Because she is such a popular figure.

For Angelique Kerber herself, the appearance will be special because "the best players will be competing and so it will be a real Wimbledon acid test in the renowned Steffi Graf Stadium in Berlin. I'm excited to see what will be possible for me with the support of the home crowd, especially on my favourite surface, grass."
